My new desk

So I finally got my new desk yesterday. I love how it turned out! ❤

I have a place that’s purely mine now and I’ll soon have more time on my hands. No more excuses, it’s time to start focusing on my writing. Hopefully I’ll be studying at the university next spring, so I’ll have 3 months to relax with my family and write. 🙂

Once again…

My late late late June Wrap Up and July TBR

So, I knew that June would be a slow month reading wise. I just didn’t know how slow or that it would be the start of a reading slump. The reading slump, how it vexes me. It probably vexes every avid reader and book blogger. The pressure of not keeping up with the planned TBR, of not producing posts for your blog, pictures for Instagram and tweets for Twitter.  I am grown up enough to acknowledge that there are things more important than appearance and if it makes me feel stressed in a bad way, I don’t actually have to do it. I’m allowed to take breaks. It’s hard to not feel bad about starting something that needs maintenance and then not have the time to keep it up. I used to feel bad all the time about things that I couldn’t maintain or finish. It used to be the worst feeling ever. It gave me migraines and stomach aches. It was like being back in college with the final examination pending times infinity.

I still feel bad when things don’t go according to my plans and expectations, I still get that heavy feeling in my stomach, but it doesn’t control my life anymore. Do you know what I mean? Why should I put that kind of negative pressure on myself, when it should be a positive experience? A way of reinforcing myself and having something of my own. Reading, writing and photography. These things are mine, they should give me freedom and happiness. So, reading slumps and standstills in productivity? They mean pauses, not endings and I hope you’ll stay with me through them 🙂

I’ve read a total of 2 books this month. Both got 4 stars, but I expected more of the Shadow Queen. It felt spotty in places, a little contrived (sorry?), BUT as a whole I really liked it and I would love to read the sequel! Once A Soldier was a delight from the romance department and a review will be posted in a week or so.

  1. Once A Soldier by Mary Jo Putney – 4/5*
  2. The Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine – 4/5*

For July’s TBR I’m still going to take it slow. It seems like my reading slump isn’t over yet, as I’ve started reading Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige and can’t get past the first few chapters, even though I can tell that it’s probably an amazing book. Usually I’ll try to muddle through, but sometimes you just need to switch it up and try it at some other time for full effect. So most likely, I’ll do that. Any suggestions on what I should try to read next? 🙂
